Pre-visit to the crop site: has as major aims to select potential areas to be linked to the Ingenio Risaralda, considering the following parameters: Distance of the crop site to the Ingenio, infrastructure, land topography, soil type, drainage systems, irrigation, water sources and areas of restriction.

Linking site: After selecting the site, it´s defined the type of engagement as: leasing, Participation in bills, cane supplier, Occasional cane supplier.

Suitability and land preparation: These tasks are carried out before sowing and aim to provide the ground infrastructure for the establishment of the crop.

Includes the work of: Destruction of strains, leveling, construction of roads, construction of irrigation canals and drainage, bridges and culverts, protection works such as dams and jarillones, civil works, pumping stations and drainage, and preparation of cut ground.

 

Planting: It includes the selection of the variety of cane to be produced in accordance with: agro-ecological zone, evaluation of seed, fertilizer, transport, discharge, and capped off the irrigation and seed germination.

 

Cultivation: This refers to the cultural work, mechanical and fertilization subsequent made after the establishment of the plantation, providing adequate and timely manner for their physiological development and procurement of high productivity. Includes the work of mechanics decompression of the field, fertilization, maintenance of drainage systems, road maintenance, plant health, weed control, irrigation maintenance, aerial application of bio-stimulators and maturates, and analysis of pre-and mature cane.

 

Technical Support: technical and investigative procedures aimed at evaluating the information obtained during development and crop cycle in order to identify and recommend practices and techniques that lead to minimize costs and increase the productivity of sugarcane plantations. This investigation is supported by the National Center for Research on Sugar Cane CENICAÑA as a leading institution in research on the cultivation of sugar cane.

 

Harvest: When the cane has completed its process of development and physiological maturity, approximately between 12 and 14 months of age, the department proceeded to harvest the selection of sites to reap determining the type of cut and make an adequate system of transport for its processing in factory.
